Skills and Training
The first part of skill training is knowing which skills to train first. The skills that will be most important will vary depending on the path you choose as you begin. And ultimately, you will probably change course a few times in your EVE career. If you start out mining, as many do, you'll want to train the skills that make mining easier, faster, and more profitable. If you begin your career as a combat pilot, you'll want to train guns and shield/armor and all that stuff. But the first skill you might want to invest in is probably Cybernetics.
Cybernetics and you. You'll need Science at level three to train Cybernetics, but it is worth the wait. Take the time to get this skill at least to level four. Here is a chart to help you realize just how important Cybernetics is. The implants you can use are based on the Cybernetics skill. So, assuming you have all five attribute implants of the same level it would take roughly...

(Note: your times may vary slightly, but these times are taken from EVE Online and should be very close to your times.)
As you can see you save almost an entire day on a times one multiplier skill just by having Cybernetics four and level four implants. Imagine training a times eight skill. Or even a times 16 skill with no implants. The difference on longer skills will be close to, but with implants, slightly less than the training time multiplies by the modifier. A times 8 skill will take 8 times longer to train. The time saved should be 8 times as much. Cybernetics is a must have for anyone wanting to learn skills faster. The down side is the price. A complete set of level 4 implants will cost you close to 100 million ISK. For most new players this is too much. So, show info on the skills you want to train the most. Remember that each skill tree i.e. Mechanic, Spaceship Command, Planet Management, Navigation, etc. all use the same attributes. In other words, all of the skills listed under Planet Management have the same primary and the same secondary attributes. Sometimes they may appear in reverse order, but it is the same two attributes. Since EVE calculates your training time on both of the primary and secondary attributes for the skill, it doesn't matter which comes first or second. Always try to have both attributes at the same level, and that level should be as high as you can get it. Since each implant for level four implants costs around 17 to 20 million ISK, if you buy only the two you need for the next few skills, you can spread the cost out and save yourself having to save up and dump 100 million. If you can only afford to buy one implant, make it the implant that affects the most skills so you will get the most benefit from it.
The key to training is to plan ahead. If your goal is to get into an Amarr Battleship, then simply clicking Show Info on the ship in the market window will show you all the skills you need to operate it, and you can use that as a guide to get you there. Remember, you can right click on prerequisites and click Show Market Details and the market will show you the buy and sell orders for the skill you right clicked on. This saves a lot of time searching for a skill in the market. In fact nearly everything can either Show Market Details, or Find in Contracts, or both.
